Arkansas : Governor Hutchinson Continues meets with U.S. Trade Representative

Governor Asa Hutchinson held media availability on Thursday afternoon to discuss highlights from this week’s trip to Washington D.C., where he met with U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Robert Lighthizer, among others. The Governor raised a range of issues including the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and tariffs and global trade concerns regarding China and other countries.
“I’m more confident now than ever before that agriculture is going to come out on top,” said Governor Hutchinson.

He went on to provide two main reasons for his optimism.  First, Governor Hutchinson stated that during talks and negotiations over the past few weeks China has acknowledged the importance of balancing trade and has put a focus on agriculture; they have adjusted and are now planning on importing more U.S. agricultural products. Second, Governor Hutchinson stressed the current administration’s efforts and their understanding of the agriculture industry as well as our export markets.
